Jeep Compass Recalled to Fix Instrument Panel Lighting Problem
Incorrect software may prevent the brightness level from being adjusted
Chrysler has announced the recall of nearly 182,000 Jeep Compass SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years because of a software problem impacting the instrument panel cluster. Incorrect software was used for a lighting component, and as a result it may not be able to adjust the brightness level for the instrument cluster lights. This means the Compass fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101.
The Details
Vehicles recalled: 181,999 Jeep Compass SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years, built between Feb. 17, 2021, and July 26, 2023.
The problem: Incorrect software was used for a component that controls the instrument panel cluster lighting. As a result, the brightness levels might not be adjustable, and therefore the vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
The fix: Dealers will update the software, free of charge.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call Chrysler at 800-853-1403.
NHTSA campaign number: 23V576. Chrysler’s number for the recall is 88A.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.
If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
